The congregation has chosen to focus worship
music around singing. Congregation-participation is highly valued. Both an
adult volunteer choir, a children's choir and a bell choir lead our
congregation. Often members who are instrumentalists complement
them. The choir welcomes newcomers with good voices, musical talent,
and some experience. Choir selections feature both classical
composers and 20th century masters.
Each service is conceived of as being "integral." Its parts match the scripture texts and the pastor's sermon. Yet the organic character does not mean narrowness of range. Members may leave worship and hum their way home having, on any particular day, sung a classic Lutheran chorale, a Honduran chant, an African-American spiritual, a Latvian or Bohemian hymn. The choirs are not perceived as entertainers so much as leaders, not as performers but as stimulators of congregational song. The congregation, thanks to the leadership of pastors and musicians, is a singing congregation, adventurous, welcoming of the new, at home with a wide range of inherited music.
